SuperSlammers Team Tennis Rules

The top ranked player now has to decide how the players are used to play all matches and ties – the position can vary from tie to tie. You are encouraged to take consensus on this decision, but you have final word. Each player must play at least one match. NEW RULE: A player may only play 2 matches in a tie until ALL the team members have been given a chance to play a 2nd match within a tie. You have until Friday of this week to decide on the player positions i.e. 1st singles, 2nd singles, 3rd singles and doubles players. Please send them to me by Friday. I will then send out the various matches.

Matches will be 1 set each, but 1st to 7 with lead of 2 and tie-break at 7-7. No ad scoring and the receiver will elect where to receive when the score is deuce. Players are only allowed to rest as follows: after first 3 games then after each next 4. This will allow matches to be completed within an hour and it will also add a little excitement.

The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the SF’s with full match format. Each match win will be awarded a point. The team with the most points will top their group. The two teams who finish 3rd in their division will play for 5th and 6th place – bonus points awarded for the final position within the competition.

Injuries incurred during a match and resulting in a retirement will count as a match win. Injuries incurred before a match will result in a player being allowed to be substituted, but each player must still play 1 match per tie if possible i.e. unless last match. A player will only be allowed to miss 1 match as a result of injury. If a long-term injury is sustained then the player may be substituted by a new player altogether. Opposing teams must agree temporary substitutions before the match to avoid strategic injuries – please apply Slammer ethos and only withdrew as a result of genuine injuries. Missed or incomplete matches will not count towards your final tally.

Each player will only be allowed to miss 1 match per season (i.e. each complete Slam) for a reason other than injury. The other team will be awarded a point for such walkovers conceded. If a player misses more than 1 match they will not be allowed to participate in the next Slam and will sit one out before being allowed back. If a player misses a match in 2 consecutive Slams then he too will have to miss the next Slam before being allowed back. TO CLARIFY: Players are not allowed to be substituted for any reason other than injury.

NEW RULE: All incomplete matches will go down as incomplete and will not be decided off the court. You all have equal responsibility to arrange your matches – DON’T JUST RELY ON EMAIL TO ARRANGE MATCHES. Teams with incomplete matches will not be allowed to progress to the knockout stages.

Round Robin matches have to be completed by 10 June 2010. (I had to delay this a little due to the problems with my computer). The SF’s and Finals will be played between 15 June 2010 and 15 July 2010. DEADLINES WILL NOT BE MOVED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES AND RULES WILL BE APPLIED CONSISTENTLY AND RIGIDLY.

Your results will NOT be counted until your fee is paid and a team with unpaid subscriptions will not be allowed to progress to the KO rounds.
